At first glance you might think that the Ozone Park CSA is a dream of the past. I am here to tell you that we are still around and thriving! True, the blog has been neglected. Our CSA is powered by a core team of dedicated volunteers. Unfortunately that means that sometimes we haven’t enough hands to keep up with things such as blogging. We hope to have the site up and running again soon, but in the mean time please E-mail us for information about the 2016 Season at ozoneparkcsa@gmail.com. Hope to see you in June!!!

2014-11-02 18.32.40-2

Our Winter CSA will deliver every 3 weeks. We will be based at the same location – Nativity Church on Rockaway Blvd. in Ozone Park. Delivery Dates are Dec 18, Jan 8, Jan 29, Feb 19, March 12 and April 2.

There will be 3 different share options: Vegan: $240, Lacto/Ovo: $300 or Meat: $300. There is also the option to add on Apples or Cider from Red Jacket Orchard.

If you are interested, please email us at: ozoneparkcsa@gmail.com for a copy of the application.

The list below gives you a sense of what you might get in one winter share. Zaid (Our farmer) says you will get more veggies in Dec. and April. In the other months you could get milk from Ithaca Milk and cheese from Palatine Cheese. The meat, eggs, and dairy are all from pastured animals. Zaid raises the chickens and eggs himself, so they are certified organic. The beef comes from his neighbors, and though it meets organic standards, it is not always certified organic.

Vegetables will be pre-boxed, but items such as flour, eggs, meat, dairy, and the added value items (in glass jars) that are part of each share must be picked individually.

$50 Lacto share = $300 total
5 lbs. carrots (6-8 varieties over the season)
3 lbs. potatoes (various kinds)
1 lb. radishes (watermelon and/or black Spanish radishes)
1 lb. turnips
3 onions (1 to 1½ lb.)
2 heads of garlic
¾ lbs. greens (In Dec., March, and April the greens could be kale, collards, Swiss chard, mizuna, or spinach. But in Jan. and Feb. it’s too cold to grow greens, so you might get Jerusalem artichokes, winter squash, beets, celeriac, kohlrabi, or shallots instead.)
2 lbs. organic flour (Cayuga Pure Organics: farmer will send a variety of flours)
2 small yogurts (6 oz. plain and/or flavors)
2 jars of “added value” products (eg., tomato puree [24-36 oz.], pickled ginger [4 oz.], garlic scapes [4 oz.], or pickled green tomatoes [16 oz.], peppers, dilly beans, dill or bread and butter pickles, etc.)

Are you thinking about adding fruit or yogurt to your CSA share this season? Time is running out to decide. The farm needs to know how much of the ‘extra’ items to order for the season, so our orders need to be in before month end – and that is just a week away!

If you are planning to order just veggies or veggies and fruit you are encouraged to pay on-line. Other extras must be paid for via Money Order. Remember to note which CSA you are with.

In all cases after you pay for your share there is another step you need to take – Submitting your membership form and proof of payment. This can be done via e-mail: ozoneparkcsa@gmail.com or via snail mail to: Ozone Park CSA 92-18 Liberty Ave Ozone Park, NY 11417 Attn: Angel

Great news! The farm is offering the Early Bird Discount until APRIL 15th!!! Get your membership form here.

And remember – You can pay on-line at the farm’s web site too: http://www.norwichmeadowsfarm.com
